Dennis & Natasha Wedding

Dennis & Natasha Wedding

A stunning bride and groom and a beautiful venue – what more could I ask for!  I’d never visited Bakenhof Wine Estate before being asked to shoot Dennis and Natasha’s wedding for them and wow … what a little get it is!  The views from the elevated wooden deck are gorgeous and there are lots of quaint spots for photo opportunities.

Dennis and Natasha’s wedding was an intimate affair made even more special by the guests who travelled from afar.  The suite where Natasha and her party prepared for the wedding gave a certain Cinderella feel to it all, and Natasha certainly looked the part!

The ceremony was set up on the edge of a blossoming rose garden with the vineyards nearby – and the weather was perfect.  I loved the relaxed feel about this wedding; it was definitely the first time I’ve had a whole group of families and bridal party pile into a tractor trailer for a shot!

Again, I had the opportunity to have Kate Newman of Katherine Newman Photography assist me with this wedding so we could capture every special moment.  Thank you Kate!

Elzaan & Naude Wedding

Kate Newman of Katherine Newman Photography approached me to see if I’d like to help her shoot a magical wedding at Delsma Farm in the Riebeek Valley and I jumped at the chance.  What a treat it was to capture Elzaan and Naude’s special day! It was quite an adventure getting to the venue on the wet, slippery dirt road.  Despite planning for an outdoor ceremony,  this wedding was that very stormy weekend in the Cape at the end of August, so we were forced to retreat indoors; thankfully the venue had a great plan B and we were able to use the unique shops and features of Riebeek West town to get some great pics for the couple shoot.

Ed & Lizzie Wedding

Ed & Lizzie Wedding

You know you’ve made it when you get asked to fly to England to shoot a wedding, even if it’s for your cousin!  I was thrilled when Ed and Lizzie asked me to be their photographer!  Due to the sheer size of the event – 150 guests – I recruited the help of a good friend of mine, Kate Newman (www.katherinenewmanphotography.com) who came down from London to be second photographer.

The English weather in the middle of May is usually a bit touch-and-go; you never know what you’re going to get!  Thankfully though, and despite persistent rain on the days leading up to the wedding, the rain held off and the sun popped out from behind the clouds to shine down upon us.

The wedding ceremony took place at St Mary’s Church in the quaint village of Chilton Foliat, Wiltshire.  St Mary’s Parish dates back to the 13th century and holds all the charm of a time long since passed – its ceiling arches, old doorways and stained glass windows made for an exquisite setting.  The best thing about English weddings is that they really know how to do it properly – and guests arrived in an array of dresses, suits, hats and fascinators.  The wedding couple looked gorgeous, with Lizzie in a stunning ivory lace-up dress, and Ed looking very dapper in a smart suit and a powder blue tie.

After the very special ceremony, champagne was served to guests in the churchyard who mingled waiting for photos. Due to the size of the wedding party we needed a tall ladder to shoot from to get the best angle.

The reception was held at Lizzie’s family home some 100m down the village lane, where a magnificent marquee had been erected in the backyard.   Alongside a spacious entrance area, twenty or so beautifully laid tables were dotted around the marquee beneath ornate chandeliers, and a ramp took guests to a large dance floor complete with bar area, stage and lighting!

Once the speeches were out of the way (which had the guests in stitches!), the swing band took to the stage and got the party going with their lively tunes.  Wedding guests danced the night away in celebration of Ed and Lizzie’s special day long after the wedding couple had slipped away.

I couldn’t have wished for better weather for such a deserving and lovely couple! The sun shone down brilliantly and provided great light for the outdoor photos. Lisa and Georgine had their intimate wedding in the gardens at Groote Post Vineyards where guests sat on hay bales adorned with scatter cushions and blankets, and glass wind chimes hung from the trees.

The best thing about these special ladies is that they were game for anything that would make for interesting photos, including riding in a tractor, posing on antique farm equipment and getting into the paddocks with the horses!

Alex & Isobel Wedding

Alex & Isobel Wedding

You wouldn’t think to look at the photographs of this gorgeous couple that both bride and groom were initially nervous about being in front of the camera!

As the day wore on, though, they forgot I was even there and were caught up in the wonderful ambience and setting at Blouberg’s On the Rocks restaurant.

The weather was perfect and the sun shone brilliantly on the couple who took their vows beneath a white pergola on the terrace near the water’s edge.

The dramatic rocks on this part of the coast made for an ideal location for photographs with waves sending sea-spray into the air in the background.
